PASS SEASON POINTS: The Rules

Annual Season Points Trophies are awarded in 4 categories:

HANDLAUNCH     SLOPE     F5B     OVERALL

For a contest to count for any of these categories they must meet the following criteria:

There must be at least 3 opportunities to score for the majority of the participants

There must be at least 3 entrants in the contest

It must be advertised so that all PASS members could know about the event

Team events do not count for season points

Pilots can only earn points for a contest if they paid their membership dues during the same quarter as the contest or before (i.e., if you join during the first quarter – before March 31 – you can count all contest; if you join during the second quarter – before June 30 – you can count all contests after April 1; etc.)

Points are awarded for each contest as follows:

First place receives 20 points

Second place receives 19 points

Third place receives 18 points

And so on; pilots finishing after 20th place receive zero points

HANDLAUNCH SEASON POINTS

The sum of points from the pilot’s best 5 PASS Handlaunch contests

(maximum of 100 points). Handlaunch golf does not count.

SLOPE SEASON POINTS

The sum of points from the pilot’s best 65% of PASS Slope Races that occur (Number of counted contests is rounded to the nearest integer. Maximum possible points varies from year to year.) Only races count; Fun Flys, Combats, and Scale Events do not count toward Slope Season Points.

F5B SEASON POINTS

The sum of points from the pilot’s best 4 of PASS F5B contests (maximum of 80 points)

OVERALL SEASON POINTS

The sum of points from the pilot’s:

Best two handlaunch contests

Best two slope races

Best two thermal contests (non-handlaunch)

Best two F5B contests

Best single “other” contest*

Best single contest hosted by a club other than PASS**

(maximum of 200 points) Pilots do not have to collect points in all categories to participate or even win!

* “Other” contests include electric duration and speed 400 events, slope and slow stick combat, sportsman multitask, handlaunch golf, etc.

** “Non-PASS” events must meet the same basic criteria as PASS events and will be scored in the same way. All contests hosted by neighboring Salem Soaring Society will automatically be counted towards this category. For other clubs’ contests, a copy of the results or contact information for the CD (email or phone) must to be given to the PASS Contest Coordinator.

Special rulings:

(1/3/05) The Eugene Rippin’ Thermals contest, formally hosted by the Eugene Glider Guiders (EGGS) and now co-hosted by EGGS and PASS, will count as a PASS Thermal contest, regardless of whether this contest is held in Eugene, St. Paul or some other location.

(1/8/06) Due to the low number of slope races, only one slope race was counted towards the overall season points for 2005.
